While he is actually the fourth son born to Martin and Julia
Herdman, Joshua is the only one in his family to follow in his
father’s acting footsteps.
He was about the age of seven when his father noted his passion
and talent for performing. Because of his experience in the
business, he knew the right people to contact and the exact phone
calls to make.
It wasn’t long before he found an agent for Joshua who agreed that
he had a natural talent and began searching for auditions for his
new client.
Success took a while to find Joshua. In the meantime, he attended
St. Margaret’s School. He experienced a normal childhood. He
especially enjoyed going to the movies with his friends and
listening to rap music.
He got his big break when his agent called with an audition for
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. At the time of his
audition, Jamie Waylett had already been cast as Vincent Crabbe,
one-half of Draco Malfoy’s sidekicks. Casting directors though
Joshua matched up perfectly with Jamie, and he was soon cast as
the other half — Gregory Goyle.
Joshua Herdman had reprised that role in every Harry Potter film
to date. He once stated in an interview that although he enjoys
his role, the worst thing about his character is being a bully and
looking mean.
Unlike his partner, Joshua has managed to land other acting roles
throughout his time in the Harry Potter series. He guest starred
in various television series, including episodes of The Crust, The
Bill, and UGetMe. He also appeared in the 2002 movie Thunderpants
alongside Harry Potter co-star Rupert Grint, better known as Ron
Weasley in the films. He is also lined up to appear in the movie,
The Estate, though the movie has yet to set a release date.
Joshua Herdman will reprise his role as Gregory Goyle for the
final two Harry Potter films, where his character just became an
asset to a climactic scene. The major script change arose due to
the recent arrest of Jamie Waylett, who played Vincent Crabbe.
Jamie and his character have been removed from the final films
despite the fact that Crabbe is responsible for summoning the
fiendfyre that destroys a horcrux but unfortunately takes his
life. Goyle has now been chosen to step into that role.
Nowadays, Joshua enjoys boxing, writing movie scripts, and making
short films.
Joshua has also self-appointed himself as a promoter of the new
films. During a recent interview, he revealed where the split
between Deathly Hallows Part I and Deathly Hallows Part II would
take place. He stated that the first movie would end with Harry,
Ron, and Hermione being captured by the snatchers, and the second
movie would begin at the Malfoy Manor.
Director David Yates and producer David Heyman quickly explained
that despite the accuracy of Joshua’s revelation, the split is
still subject to change.
